What are Volunteer Community Days?
Volunteer Community Days are a generative space of compassion, sharing and connection, with the land and other humans. They are opportunities to connect with other caring individuals, dedicated to work together for a world where Indigenous people are seen, heard, healthy and thriving. They create a space to make new friends, enjoy nature, and take action to support other communities while renewing your own vitality.
What to Expect?
There are many different ways to be involved, from tending the gardens, harvesting and processing botanical medicines to maintaining trails. Interested volunteers can work on designing and/or constructing simple infrastructures for Mochik Ania, our summer camp at OJI:SDA’ Forest for Indigenous youth.
What to Bring?
Come prepared for a day in nature. Wear sturdy shoes and bring layers of clothing suitable for the day's weather conditions. Don't forget bug repellent. Pack lunch, snacks (for yourself or to share), a full water bottle, and an open mind. Remember to check for ticks after you leave.
Who can volunteer?
Everyone is welcome to join! Please register in advance and let us know about your interests and any specific needs you may have. We welcome both groups and individuals. Youth participants should be accompanied by an adult.
What does a typical Volunteer Community Day look like?
Once you register with one of our team members, you'll be informed about the various activities available for the day. You can then choose to participate in the ones you find most enjoyable and where your help is needed. Depending on the day, the activities can vary, offering both individual and group tasks. There is usually a designated time for everyone to take a break and eat together, but participation in this is entirely up to you.
When and Where?
See in the registration form below for available volunteer dates.
The Volunteer Community Program is being hosted primarily next to the Soil Factory. This is a new location and when we are hosting a day at our location it will be listed with the date.
The gardens next to the Soil Factory can be reached by public bus, bicycle or car. The address is 142 Ithaca Beer Drive Ithaca, NY14850.
